New Investment in state-of-the-art gas detection technology

JK Environmental, part of the British Gas group invests in state of-the-art gas detection technology

JK Environmental, one of the UK's leading industrial waste management companies, has invested in new state-of-the-art gas safety detection equipment which will give the company an industry leading position dealing with gas monitoring and detection.

Pat Dunne, Managing Director of JK Environmental explains, "At JKe the safety of our people and our clients is our number one priority. Our investment in new gas detection equipment called iNet will give the us industry leading technology which detects and responds to hazards immediately in real-time. Daily bump testing of the units ensures that we are always ahead of the game when it comes to checking the devices and keeping our people safe"

Chris Kennedy of Eolas Technology who developed the iNet solution said, "JKe and Eolas have a shared focus on safety and we are delighted to provide the company with the new iNet, a leading gas detection solution. This equipment exceeds the highest industry standards for monitoring gas hazards, maintaining gas detection equipment, and managing gas conditions in the workplace."

A bump test is used to check the functionality of sensors and alarms on portable gas detectors. A known amount of gas is pumped into the detector and the test verifies that the detector has responded as it should. Recent research carried out by Industrial Scientific revealed that on any given day, one in every 2,500 untested gas detectors will fail to respond to a dangerous concentration of gas which puts the safety of people operating in such areas at serious risk. Daily bump tests are the only way to detect failures before they occur.

The iNet program continually monitors for conditions such as marginal or failed sensors, days since last calibration and low, empty or expired calibration gas. The system incorporates a fully automated daily bump (function) test to ensure each detector is operational before it is used. Weekly e-mail reports are sent on the status of the instrument fleet and immediate reports are sent when a problem is detected.
